Giving gifts for the Holiday season can be tired some, annoying and sometimes just plain tricky. There is always a chance that someone won't like what you've picked out. I know it is rude to complain about what gifts you get but face it, we've all gotten the crappy end of the deal at one time or another.

I'm not saying that just because I don't like a gift that the other person didn't spend time or effort on it. What really bugs me is the person who intentionally buys you a gift because they are forced to and randomly puts together a whole bunch of junk that not even THEY want. ::COUGH COUGH::. That's what really irks me.

I also noticed that there is always that one person from your Secret Santa who puts their name in knowing that they will get a great gift no matter. Then they totally flop on their end of the bargain. Aren't there rules about that? I say if you don't want it, chances are they don't either. Unless of course you know for a fact, and without a doubt they are into that kind of stuff. Whatever that "stuff" might be.

I know it's a little late to beg and plead for a say in what my gifts are this year but it doesn't hurt to share either. Maybe my list is similar to yours? What do you have on your Top 5? Obviously not all of mine are realistic but a girl can dream can't she?

I have been going to the gym now for the last few weeks. I've been loosing weight, having a great time doing it, feeling great and eating well. I noticed that even though on the outside and in my physical state was great, I still felt like I was missing something. I like myself but I don't love myself. I need to learn how to love myself. Once I do I think my circle will be complete. Especially when I'm at my goal weight and my braces are off. It's gonna be awesome! Anyway, just a thought. It will come soon <3

Just wanted to quickly share with you all my latest nail creation!

In honor of the MITCH launch for Paul Mitchell the School in Danbury I wore yellow and black and even decked out my nails to match. I love the way they came out. I used "Smash Hit" by Color Club and "Mellow Yellow" by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear.

I have several crackle/shatter polishes. I have two by O.P.I and one by Color Club. Usually everyone swears by O.P.I brand but honestly I am really feeling the Color Club crackle collection. Once applied it spreads evenly and nicely. The O.P.I isn't horrible but doesn't spread as nicely.

Just for fun here is my outfit that I wore for the MITCH launch too! I won 'Staff Member of the Month' for the second time in a row. Small victory but it makes me feel good that I am liked by the students. They are a big part of the reason why I go to work everyday. Such vibrant personalities under one roof. So much inspiration and you get to seem them really grow as a stylist. It's bittersweet when they leave!

In closing I have been looking at blogs that feature nail polish addicts like myself for the past hour. I honestly think I have an addiction. I have plenty of polishes (around 50 to be exact) but the other day at Target I found myself putting back 5 nail polishes that I almost bought. I haven't even used all the colors in my stash at home. Why would I need more? Well, at least I stopped myself. Stay tuned on my nail addition. I might end up on hoarders at the rate that i'm going! :) Thanks everyone!

'Lisa Frank' Inspired Nails

For some reason I have been obsessed with doing my nails this year! First it started off simple. Then it became more elaborate by the mani! I can't resist posting my mini masterpieces on here!

Today I was posting some stuff for work and came across this sweet tutorial on YouTube for 'Lisa Frank' inspired nails. Remember 'Lisa Frank'? We all would scramble every year around the month of September right before school started back up again to get the brightly colored folders, stickers, binders, pencils, and pencils so we could be "cool" for back to school.

As I was sitting at work thinking of all the things I had to purchase that night in preparation of the upcoming and so called Hurricane Irene, I suddenly remembered that I did not have anymore Foundation Powder that I use during my makeup routine every morning. I realized I would have to go all the way across town to MAC at the Mall. Really? It was either that or look like a hot mess tomorrow for work. I opted to drag my lazy ass out to get it after all. I was just going to get the groceries, drop them off home and then head to the mall to quickly go in and grab what I needed and leave. Or so I thought.

The grocery store was a horrible tiny little hell hole. Thankfully I only went to Stop & Shop and a quick stop to CVS to purchase my items. According to some people my places of attendance was a field day compared to some stores like Costco. Apparently people were at each others throats for the last of the water and non-perishable items. I understand the whole survivor instincts but GEESH PEOPLE! Get a grip!

Here is my experience at Stop & Shop. I should be so lucky!

Two cases of bottled water, a box of granola bars, strawberry eggos, capri suns, hummus and a bag of chips later I was finally done! Yippie! Sounds like i'm a real survivor huh? DON'T BE JEALOUS! I saved a lot of money by not going overboard with all this non-sense that everyone is scrambling to buy. Pfftt... puh lease. I get home, drop off the stuff and drive across town to the mall solely to go to MAC, buy my product and bounce. The whole way over the traffic was so ridiculous. You might have thought the whole world was coming to an end. Didn't help that it was a Friday either.

I finally arrived at the mall after fighting through the traffic in town. Hallelujah baby Jesus! I power walked to Macy's and headed straight for the MAC counter. I asked one of the girls at the counter for help and she got me exactly what I was looking for. She asked if I needed anymore help, and I politely said no. I was not about to stay at the mall any longer than I had to. I wanted to get in and out. I don't always like being at the mall. Especially after a long day at work. All I wanted was to go home and unwind.

I approached the front to purchase my foundation. I glanced down and peeped the shirt the associate was wearing. I noticed it had big bold white lettering on it that said "MAC Me Over". I remembered getting a postcard in the mail from MAC a few weeks back about free Makeovers that they were going to be doing. I asked the girl who was ringing me up at the register about the event and she told me it would unfortunately be ending tomorrow. She asked if I would like to do one right then but I shook my head no. At first I didn't want to because I figured it would be a waste of makeup. I thought about it for a second and decided it might not be a bad idea after all. If big bad Irene is "supposedly" starting tomorrow I probably wouldn't be able to make it over that way anyway. I quickly changed my mind and decided to give it a go just for fun.

I sat down in the chair, was handed a makeup remover wipe, and was instructed to remove all of my makeup that I had applied earlier on in the day. Upon removal I took one look in the mirror and realized how scary I must have looked. AHHH! How embarrassing. Oh well, ::shrugs:: she was going to make me look fabulous anyway. Right?

Just so you all know, the whole ordeal and experience was awesome. I felt completely pampered and at the same time I felt like I totally knew her for what seemed to be forever. She explained everything she was doing, she showed me everything she used and most importantly she picked products and colors that flattered my face. It was a great experience. I am definitely heading over there on payday to scope out the products she recommended they really looked great on me. I felt so pretty!

After the MAC Makeover was finished I was talking with her and her co-worker about all sorts of things. It was cool to be able to connect and nice that we both stemmed from the Fashion & Beauty industry. Her name was Liz by the way. She was an outgoing, personable, and knowledgeable girl that really knew her stuff inside and out. Not only that but she made me feel very comfortable through out the makeover.

What I thought was really cool was that she was really into coming in for a Guest Artist spot where I work. Paul Mitchell the School has people from outside companies come in to demonstrate different techniques to give the Future Professionals a taste of something other than Paul Mitchell. There is a big talented world out there. It's only right we give them other opportunities as well.

Over all it was an awesome night! I gave her my blog address and hopefully she come to check out this rave review. HEY LIZ!

Want Assistance? Here, Go Pee in This!

Florida and Kentucky are the first states that require drug testing when applying for welfare. This has been effective since July 1st. Some people are crying this "unconstitutional" and violating their rights. How is this unconstitutional? How do you suppose this is violating your rights? It's okay to drug test people who work for their money but not those who don't? The new law would ensure CASH welfare funds go to their primary target (disadvantaged children). They are only requiring drug testing if you receive CASH assistance. For those who receive Housing Assistance or Food Stamps this law would not apply to them.

I am extremely happy that the government is finally setting some limits on how MY hard earned tax dollars is helping out individuals on state assistance. I am all for helping people in need out. I do not want to feed one's addiction to drugs though. If they are hooked, and they used that money they receive for assistance on drugs it's just creating a bigger problem. If we put these regulations on getting assistance maybe is will push someone to kick there habit and life a clean and righteous lifestyle. No drugs could mean more opportunities for them in the long run. It might be the drive that some people need to kick the habit for good.

When a drug addict is weened off certain narcotics they are in physical pain and experience flu like symptoms. Your body becomes dependent on these substances. When your body is dependent on these substances that's all you crave. The cravings are so bad they addicts are willing to sacrifice anything they have by any means to get their hands on this stuff. What might look normal on the outside might be HELL at home because of the addiction.

When a potential employer drug tests me I do not believe it is violating my rights. It is simply getting the right person for the job. If you have two equally qualified candidates applying for the same job and one is an addict (but functions "normally" in society) and the other is a law
abiding citizen which one are you going to pick? How will you know which one is the right choice if all of the other qualifications are the same? DRUG TESTING. Addicts are a higher risk for an employer. Pick the LAW ABIDING CITIZEN! Someone has to draw the line somewhere! It's about time we started!

Colors of the Rainbow: A Polish Timeline

I have recently been addicted to painting my nails. I picked up the "past time" when I was just sick and tired of having to rely on the Nail Salon to do my nails even if I wanted a simple color change.

I don't know about you but im strapped for cash and can't afford $20 to $40 dollars every other week.
(I still however get my pedicures at the nail salon because I have yet to master doing my own toes!)

Here is my little compilation of some of the colors and designs I have done on myself. I also did have to throw in two pictures of when I got them done at the salon because face it, they were too dam pretty to not include them.

TIP: It's not about the brand of nail polish. I have a large collection of nail polish but I use the less expensive brands like NYC, Sinful Colors, Confetti, N.Y.X, Wet & Wild. I do however splurge every once in awhile if I REALLY like a color. Other than that I don't stretch too far from these brands. I find it's more important to have a great base coat and and even better top coat. I recommend Seche Vita for the top and base! I also am obsessed with Sally Hansen Nail Strips. They are amazing and I did I post on them and reviewed them here.

Enjoy, and hopefully I can get YOUR creative juices flowing and inspire you to do your own nails.

Crazy For Wedges

I'm the type of girl who loooves the looks of heels and can appreciate a woman that can wear them but I look horrible trying to walk in them. Honestly, if I don't have to wear heels you probably won't see me in them

I was out shopping at the mall when I came across these black "Lady Gaga inspired" peep toe wedges. They were perfect! Just for shits and giggles I tried them on.

I fell in love.

What was the best part you ask? They were SO COMFORTABLE!

I think I have it all figured out. Mental Note: Wedges in, stilettos out. (At least for me.) After testing them out at work (yes, I wore them all day) I made it my mission to find more. I found some great styles that I can wear out to work, the club, to dinner, and maybe even to :: dramatic pause :: bed. You get the point.

I had faith in you, saw you in a different light. You let me down and pushed me away. You never trusted me. I trusted you. I underestimated how much you could hurt me.The feelings that you made me feel were indescribable.You drive me insane, kept me awake, and infuriated me.

Sometimes I ask myself if I like to be hurt. Do I like to be miserable? I rack my brain for the right answer. Nothing good can come from caring about you. This am am sure. I am positive. I am confident. Why am I still thinking about you?

I’m left here angry. Alone in my distress. Picking up pieces of debris and the emotions. Bitter feelings that linger.The door to closure can never be shut. Nothing you can say can turn back the hands of time.

REVIEW: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

#250 Bling It On....

When it comes to painting my nails I leave it to the professionals.
I wasn't even going to bother to try these because I am so hopeless in this area but I decided to give it a try just for kicks!

I was doing a haul in Walmart and browsing in the Beauty section when I came across "Bling It On". Sparkly and pink? HECK YAH! Count me in. ;)

The one I originally wanted was the Zebra Print strips in "Wild Child" but they ran out. The next best one was this one "Bling It On" and to be honest this was probably the best option for my first try with the nail strips.

I really ended up liking this product and was pretty impressed. For a nail dummy like myself these were simple, easy and the end result was very professional looking.

I didn't have to wait to have my nails dry (except for the top coat which I voluntarily applied) and the application was effortless. I thought it was going to be a pain and they weren't going to stick but they went right on.

PROS:

- They have a good variety of designs & colors

- They are cheaper than Minx

- They are easy to apply yourself

- No dry time (Unless you opt for a Top Coat)

- The instructions that came with them are easy to follow

- Good for people who aren't great at doing nails

- They last a long time and are durable

- If you have short nails you can get 2 uses

(by cutting them in half)

CONS:

- They are pricey compared to a bottle of polish

- The sizing of the strips is a little weird

- They take awhile to apply. Set some time aside

- You have to get past the learning curve

- You probably should put on a Top Coat

Overall I was very happy with my $8 purchase from Walmart. I definitely want to try them again. This might be a regular occurrence. It's definitely cheaper than splurging on a Mani or Minx.

SIDE NOTE:

I also was able to get a "Pedicure" out of one box. I technically got a Mani/Pedi.

Don't get me wrong. The message that Lady Gaga is trying to get out there is absolutely amazing. I totally agree with it BUT this video truly scares me and freaks me out a little. Lady Gaga is on a whole other level that I do not understand nor comprehend. I feel as though I would have to be in her brain to understand her.

Here are some questions & thoughts:
- Why the face modifications?
- Why does it look like they are pulling mucus out of her vagina?
- Why does this feel like this is going to be a good movie?
- This song reminds me of a song Madonna would cover.
- Ew! Why is there an eye on her chin?
- Nice skull makeup!
- That bowl cut is creepy on her!
- Does she really have all those tattoos?
- She just flicked me off!
- Is she having a seizure?
- Lady Gaga did the Christina Aguilera "finger" move! Haha!
- She has a gap in her teeth?
- Why is she crying at the end?

That's just to sum it up. :) haha

My Unfortunate Brush With Road Rage

Police: New Fairfield man dragged woman from her car and assaulted her

DANBURY -- A New Fairfield man who allegedly became enraged when he thought another driver cut him off, is accused of wrestling the driver out of her car and punching her repeatedly in the chest, police said.

John Wilson, of Woods Road, was arrested Thursday and charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace after the alleged victim filed a complaint, officials said.

Police said Wilson, 50, approached the woman's car, which was stopped in traffic on Route 37 near Stacy Road, and began cursing at her.

Wilson was later held on $5,000.

A Bad Experience at Forever 21 in CT

I attended the Grand Opening of the Danbury Fair Mall Forever 21 in Danbury, CT today. I was treated so poorly that I never want to go back into that store ever again. From the time I walked in to the time I left only one of the employees said hello and that was the door greeter! None of the employee's on the floor even so much as asked if I needed help.

When I asked where the Plus Size section was I was given an answer of "I don't know." by three of the 100's of the employees that were on the floor. I understand the store is new and most of the employees are also new but they should at least know the layout of the store for a Grand Opening. Asking where a certain section is was only natural since this is the first time in the store for the customers. In the end I myself ended up finding the Forever 21+ section on my own. I found a lot of nice clothes in the Forever 21+ section. I then decided to go to the dressing room to try them on.

After trying on and picking out a few pieces from my bunch I realized that my friend happened to be holding my jacket that was carrying my cell phone in the pocket. Earlier on during our visit to Forever 21 we went our separate ways to browse the store. After I realized I could not find her, I then proceeded to ask one of the employees at the register to make a quick phone call to locate her. I was immediately answered with "Sorry, we don't do that!". She didn't bother to ask a manager, she didn't bother to offer me any other kind of help and honestly that really didn't sit right with me! She could have at least asked first before belting out a rude response.

I was going to purchase a few items that I really ended up liking. I took time to pick out, try on and walk up to the counter with these items but after the horrible service I received I threw down my purchase and walked right out. I have been a faithful customer since I found out about Forever 21. Even more so a faithful customer since they started the plus line. I am so turned off by that horrible service and I will be boycotting Forever 21 clothing. Sad really since the clothing is not the issue but the employees who work there.

I wrote a complaint on the Forever 21 Facebook and sent them a very displeased email to let them know about my horrible service. Let's see what happens now. Hope they make a note of it because the Danbury store is really making a bad name for them!

A Small Tribute to my Aunt

My Godmother, my protector, my friend and of course my Aunt.

If I could think of just one word to describe her I would say; kind. The type of person to lend a hand when times were tough or to simply lend an ear when you just needed to talk.
The last couple of years was hard. It felt like a little piece of me was taken away the day that she packed up and moved to Tennessee. A big transition for everyone and not an easy one at that. At first I did not understand why she wanted to leave. Over time I have come to terms with it. I now understand that she felt this was her calling and something she had to do. In her heart she believed that God put her there for a reason and it was in her best interest. Times were tough for her, expenses were high and Tennessee was a perfect fit.

I remember her weekend visits when I was growing up. I used to wait in anticipation to spend the day with my Aunt and my cousins. Me being an only child this was the highlight of my week. Sometimes her and my cousins would sleepover and this was especially fun for me. It was nice to have a full house on the weekends. Great quality family time. Even to this day I still miss those cherished visits with her. I miss the childhood stories of her and her sisters she would share. I miss the "boo boo" rides, watching her knit and listening to her poems. I miss the jokes, the laughs and of course I miss her loving smile.

Sometimes looking back I don't know how she dealt with me! I was difficult to say the least. Your everyday rebellious teen and of course the bratty only child. She had the patience of a a saint and honestly don't know how she kept her cool sometimes. I had the audacity to continue to test the waters. Pushing the limits to see how far I could bend them. Rarely did I get to that point where I did push the limit too for but thankfully the few times that I did she lovingly steered me back to the right direction. I thank her for doing her part and helping me become the woman that I am today.

I remember the first time I heard about her Breast Cancer. I knew all about this horrible disease but I did not think in a million years it would take away someone that I loved and held so close to my heart. Even though I do not completely understand the route she took to help her try to beat this ailment I know that in her heart this was the right way for her. Through out the entire battle she remained dedicated to her faith, and in very high hopes that all would work itself out. I know without a doubt in my mind that she now is with her creator and finally at peace.

When I was by her side in Tennessee during in April of 2010 I made my peace with the situation. Most importantly I made it very well known that I loved her. We never know how much time we will have with our loved ones. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and open up. Family is not about always agreeing. It's about working through the bad times together and coming back out stronger and closer than before you began.

All I wanted is for her to be happy and not to suffer or to be in pain. Although she is not here on earth she will always be in my heart. She is in a much better place and she is at peace. Missed and loved but never forgotten.

Snow days can really spoil your weekend. You have plans, you get excited, lay out your outfit and then, BAM! The snow hits hard and no one is going anywhere. Everyone is staying put in their homes snowed in. No one wants to drive in that!

On a snowy night when all my plans are bombarded with STUPID SNOW I surf the web. I skim through magazines and look for something new to learn. Mostly I find tutorials online. Sometimes articles from Cosmo and sometimes I just make stuff up as I go along. It's not like i'm going anywhere right? Why not teach myself something useful? haha

Accomplishment #1:
I learned how to tie a tie. Maybe if I want to start a new trend with my fancy black and white skinny tie (pictured here) I could totally be prepared to pull it off!

Accomplishment #2 & #3:
I conquered liquid eyeliner! My co-worker has been trying to teach me for months now. I have a very unsteady hand so this new found talent is exciting for me. I love the way my eyes pop when I have a little eyeliner on. I also put on falsies and they didn't come out too bad either. Given it was late at night and they weren't perfect nor did I honestly make much of an effort but they came out pretty nice!

Accomplishment #4
I know how to Flat Iron my hair now!!! My new Bangs a.k.a Fringe are the inspiration for my new skill. I love the way my hair looks straight and with the bangs but I wanted to see what it looked like curly. I have been trying to get this skill down for a little while now but never had time to experiment with it. Now I am a pro!

I have heard all different opinions on this matter. I know where I stand but since this is a topic that is so varied from person to person I would love to hear what you lovelies think.

Let me start off by saying that I like my body, I like who I am, I love my curves, and I am very comfortable in my own skin. It's no secret though that I am a big girl. I am Plus Size and not to mention pretty tall for a woman. I'm not ginormous but I am up there. Usually it's very blatantly obvious that usually I am "The Big Girl of the Room".

Now I know for some people it might be a little awkward when I point out that I am the Big Girl but since I am comfortable with that fact I like to cut people to the chase who might not have my best interest in mind. Most people seem really not to care too much. It's true. When I was younger kids were pretty mean and didn't really censor themselves but for the most part I have never encountered (too many) people who have pointed that fact out.

Maybe it's because society has taught most people to censor what they would really like to say and just be polite instead. Or maybe people just are intimidated by me. Maybe they are afraid that if they do point out that I am (::GASP::)... FAT then I will lash out at them. Heck... I would be intimidated by me too! I am 5' 10" and almost 300lbs. Get me mad enough and I could take anyone down. Remember though, I am a lover not a fighter! ;)

My whole point is, I tend to crack jokes about my size. I don't do it because I hate myself or my body but I want everyone to know that I am comfortable with who I am. If they ever do decide to point it out it's already been said and I am already aware. It's not like I am living in denial. I figure I should just get that out of the way and make everyone else feel a little more comfortable with "my situation". After that is out of the way and everyone is on the same page people seem to be a little more relieved!

People get all uptight when the word Fat is used. It's not a bad word! It's not the nicest word to use but hey, some people are just plain.... Fat. What are you going to do!? Just like some people are White or some people are Jewish or some people are short. It's a fact. You can't hide some things from others. It's nothing personal, it's the truth!

A few years ago I wouldn't dare say or do anything to "reveal" my size. I would just kind of hang my head down when size came up. Now I OWN my size. I am ok with it and not afraid to showcase it. It took a long, long, long time to be ok with my body and have the confidence that I have now. This didn't happen over night.

A lot of people might think that maybe it's a defense mechanism and that I am insecure with myself if I have to announce my size, or joke about my size with everyone else. I beg to differ. I am super confident and I just prefer beating everyone else to it. That's all! Do I absolutely looooove my body? Am I confident every single day? No! Absolutely not. It's a lot of hard work to like yourself but it's even more hard work to LOVE yourself. Yes, there is a difference. I am still young and I am still getting used to myself. It's going to be a while before I can say I am in love with myself. For now, I really like myself. We'll leave it at that. There is always room for improvement!

Pablo Fransisco Is My Future Baby Daddy!

If you know funny, you know Pablo Fransisco! As soon as he hits the stage he hits it's almost an immediate roar of laughter that fills the room. This dude is INSANE! He is full of energy from beginning to end and when it comes to impersonations he's always on point. He takes everyday circumstances and turns it into the funniest thing you've ever heard! I have been fascinated with this guy since the first time I heard him do his act!

I have seen Pablo at the Gotham Comedy Club in NYC three times over the past couple of years. Every time he has brand new material without stretching too far away from his style. I love that he does his shows in small comedy clubs and meets and greets with his fans. Not everyone does this. Let's take Dane Cook for instance. He let the "Celebrity Status" go straight to his head. Funny dude, but it's just not "personal" with his audience anymore. I have known of Pablo and Dane for about the same time and although i'm not to keen on Dane anymore, I still LOVE Pablo. He just has more staying power because of his down to earth attitude!

I had the chance to not only meet Winn today but I also had the chance to hear him speak. I work at PMTS in my hometown in Connecticut and have loved it since day one. It's a wonderful company to work for and I am honored to be part of the staff.

After today I love my job even more now. Now that I have seen with my own eyes, and heard with my own ears the positivity of the people behind PMTS it's hard not to be excited about working for Paul Mitchell. Winn was a genuine, warm, sincere person who really wants their Future Professionals to succeed. Even though I haven't "been in" the beauty industry that long I have a better appreciation for it now.

Today Winn's speech wasn't only solely based on the beauty industry (after all he never went to Cosmetology School or College even). He made his speech a heartfelt message of staying positive, being a "Visionary" and playing a part in your own life to achieve your goals. He made me want to go out an conquer the world! He reminded us today that it's easy to be a "Fence Sitter" or a "Resister" but it's a beautiful thing to go forth, be selfish (in a good way) and succeed in accomplishing your dreams.

Winn got me thinking about my financial situation, my relationship situation (or lack there of) and even my family situation. Such a great speech today!!! I even learned a couple things about myself I never knew existed. This is the day to let all my resentment go and be accountable for my future. Love and accept others for exactly who they are and you can truly let go. Holding on to that makes you bitter. Like Winn says, "Bitter or Better?". Which one are you going to be today?

A Real LIVE Faith 21! They DO exsist!

I went to the Stamford Mall this weekend in CT. I knew that they had a XXI Forever (aka Forever 21) but I did not know that they carried the Faith 21 line. I was so excited! I saw it and it was like a light was shining down and angels began to sing! Ok, maybe it wasn't THAT life changing but it was still pretty awesome! <3

Here are just a few snapshots I took of the Faith 21 section.

I ended up trying a few things on (everything fit and looked great) but I was a little strapped for cash! ::SAD FACE:: I also tried to take a few snapshots of the things I tried on but the lighting in the fitting rooms was absolutely horrible ::SAD FACE AGAIN::. I did however purchase a black "bandage" mini skirt for $9.80! SCORE! I will post pics when I do wear it! Pretty awesome piece!!!

I was impressed with how well the clothes fit me. I was hesitant to buy anything online because everyone says they run small. I wear a size 18 to 20 and the 3X fit me very nicely. Not snug and not loose. The only bad thing was that they did not have a vast collection of clothes on the racks. I was a little upset about that but after all, it is the first step in the right direction. With time I suppose they will up their selection and make more pieces available in the stores!

There you have it ladies... Faith 21 does really exist!!!

Last fall I purchased a pair of flat black suede knee high boots from Torrid. I fell instantly in love and HAD to have them. It was one of the best shoe purchases I had ever made because I wore these boots practically every day and made it work. These boots were my BFF! haha! I wore them so much that the back heel started to wear away. I was a little upset and I even tried to go get them repaired but the shoe guy said he wouldn't be able to help me out. I was just devastated!

Today I was browsing the Torrid website and VIOLA ... my boots are back. As soon as I am able to I am def. making my purchase. I can not wait!!!!!

Still Considered A "PLUS" Model??

So I was skimming through my Facebook feed and came across a picture of Crystal Renn that was on the 'Ford Models' blog. I didn't believe it was her at first. I literally had to do a double take.

She is significantly thinner and in my opinion NOT Plus Size anymore.

I know that we should start taking models out of categories such as "Straight Size" or "Plus Size" and just referring to them as just plain ol' "Models" but since that isn't happening any time soon we can all kind of agree that she is no longer Plus. Right?

My Crystal Renn Painting - A Dedication To Donna

My Aunt Donna was diagnosed with Breast Cancer about 2 years ago. Due to religious beliefs she decided to go the Holistic route for treatment. Sadly after a long battle she is losing her fight with this disease. It's been a long road for her and the family but she is resting comfortably surrounded by family and friends. We don't know how much longer she has but the prognosis is bad and the Doctor doesn't give her a lot of time.

I recently went down to Tennessee to visit my Aunt. She requested to see the family to spend some quality time before passing on. Luckily she has come to terms with her results and she is at peace with the situation. No body is every 100% ready to be taken from this Earth however with the comfort of her family and her strong belief in God, and his word ... somehow, someway she is ok with everything. She is a strong woman and I truly look up to her.

I started this painting late last year for her. This painting is of Plus Size Model Crystal Renn. This particular picture is from 'The Breast Cancer Research Foundation' advertisement that has been recently printed in a lot of popular Women's magazines. This painting really spoke to me. My favorite model is Crystal Renn and my Aunt has Breast Cancer. I dedicated the painting to her and she now has it hanging beside her bed to look up at everyday.

I thought I'd share this with everyone since I am very proud of this piece. Not only am I proud of this painting but it has a lot of meaning behind it as well. The following slideshow is a "timeline" from sketch to the final product.

Shoulder accessories and embellishments are definitely the new "IT" thing for this Spring!

They’ve been spotted all over magazines and popping up everywhere you look. They have even been seen on some celebrities like Brandon Flowers (from 'The Killers'), Natalie Portman and last but not lease....our favorite 'Honey B' a.k.a Beyonce in Lady Gaga’s newest music video entitled 'Telephone'.

This new trend can be worn atop of tunics, blazers, t-shirts, even on with a strapless pieces for a fun, dramatic and edgy look. Sometimes you can even find pieces with the embellishment already sewn on the fabric. This is really a fun look and I myself just recently bought a tunic to the same effect of this trend.

How do you feel about this trend? Love it, or hate it?

That Romper Did Absolutely NOTHING For Me!

I was in Torrid last week and was really excited to find out that they had the Romper that I have been eyeballing online for awhile now. Clearly it looks amazing on the model and I thought it would also look this great on me too.

I grabbed two sizes just in case but the results did not please me very much. It wasn't "horrible" on me but it just wasn't my style. Better luck next time I suppose. Here is a picture of me with this piece on. In my version I tried to pair it with a belt to cinch my waist a little more since I like embracing my hour glass figure. Unfortunately the fabric is so loose and draped that you can barely tell I had one on. A+ for effort?

What are your thoughts? Hate it, or love it. Love to know what you guys think. Maybe i'll have to rethink it if I get a lot of positive feedback. After all, it is VERY comfortable! =)

Downside? This shirt is long sleeve (I am a few seasons off, huh?) and it's a bit pricey. Maybe i'll wait until it goes on sale. Although it would be a great investment for me. Being that I started a new job and all and it requires me to wear an all black wardrobe. This would really make a statement.

Whoa! Watch out for this show stopper. This dress is definitely not for the regular folk and should be approached with caution. It's got all the "Diva" qualities going on. The black clingy fabric, the plunging neckline and even the cut out sleeves with jewels that adorn the shoulders. This is definitely my 2010 "Freak-Um Dress" for lack of a better word. Sometimes you have to let the girls to come out and play if you know what I mean. Besides it's Spring and what a better way to celebrate then to throw this bad boy on and show off a little leg? Naughty, naughty!

Want to show of a little leg to celebrate Spring but don't want to be so risky? I have got the item for you! These lace leggings would be absolutely what you are looking for? So modest yet flirty and oh so cute. On the bottom, see thru. On the top? Opaque. The best part is that they are cheap and totally stay in any girls wardrobe budget. Decently priced. It just makes you want to go out and buy a few pair just in case. I know I do. Great to pair with your favorite tunics or even a cute mini skirt. So many ways to set this trend. Luckily these go up to a size 3X.

Remember that time I told you that I am on a budget and that I like versatile pieces? Well here is a piece that is to die for. Two trends in one. Denim is so hot for Spring. Denim everything is all around us. Everything from the classic denim jacket to the not so classic denim high heels. Bandage dresses too! Who ever thought this up is an absolute genius. I need this in my closet as soon as possible. Probably needed as soon as ... YESTERDAY! haha

Wow Torrid. You are really on a roll lately! This is hands down, and absolutely my favorite piece of them all. I have been looking everywhere for a sexy mesh top and this is all that I would ever want in one. Simple, trendy, flirty and straight to the point. It's also not horribly overpriced like some pieces at Torrid. I want, scratch that. I NEED this piece. This shirt completes me. Tiny butterflies are dancing around in my tummy looking at these piece as we speak. Need I say more?

Black and White Tribal Print Leggings - $24.00

In the spirit of the new season I had to add one thing on my list to try that I have never tried before. In this case that would be the Tribal Print trend. These leggings are really cute and could probably totally see myself in these. The only one downside I have about this is the white in the leggings. I am always hesitant to wear white in fear of "looking bigger". I try to stay away from it but who knows, these might end up looking amazing with the right top and accessories. I would really like to give this trend a try this season.

Black and Denim Exposed Zipper Tank Dress - $54.00

There we go again. Merging two trends into one. Still staying true to the denim look and mixing it up with that ever so popular peek-a-boo zipper deal. If you really think about it there are three trends spotted in this piece. The exposed zipper, the denim, and the "color block" dress that seemed to have carried over from a few seasons ago. None the less, I still rock that trend. Hate it or love it, this is still a hot dress. Perfect for a BBQ at a friends house or just shopping with the girls.

Black and Blue Floral Print Romper - $58.00
The Romper "look" is really big this Spring. Usually I pass this by because a lot of the rompers that I have seen are either sleeveless or shapeless. Sometimes i've noticed that the rompers shorts part is always a bit short for me but this one seems a bit more conservative! This particular romper really caught my eye. It seems like it would be perfect for me because it cinches in the middle giving that hour glass effect, has a really cute pattern and it also covers up my problem area that I hate the most. My arms! This is definitely on my 'Must Have' list for Spring!

White Smocked Bust Purple Blue Leaf Dress - $34.00

This dress really isn't very "trendy" or special in any which way but I love the pattern on the skirt and love the colors! It would be perfect for a night out clubbing with some sexy heels or even a barbecue at a family members house in the warm Summer weather. This piece it on my list simply for the fact that you can wear this in so many different ways and occasions and look stylish and cute!! Not to mention it looks super comfty!

Also, I have recently gotten myself a great new job at Paul Mitchell - The School as the Front Desk Receptionist.

One person’s Valentine’s Day is another’s Singles Awareness Day (yes, the acronym spells SAD, and yes, someone has already thought to trademark it).

The backlash against the romantic holiday with a murky (perhaps pagan?) history has spawned a cottage industry of anti-Valentine’s paraphernalia: anti-Valentine’s T-shirts, anti-Valentine’s greeting cards, anti-Valentine’s Web sites, anti-Valentine’s day music compilations, even anti-Valentine’s Day throw pillows.
But the Helmsley Hotel believes Singles Awareness Day should not be passed alone, but rather, with others.

So it is having its second Anti-Valentine’s Day Dinner tonight at 7 o’clock.
Among the highlights of the evening:

Paper shredders to publicly destroy any vestigial photos of exes.
Attractive models, both male and female, that have been hired to pose for cellphone pictures that can be sent via mobile to exes.
A Cupid-faced Satan ice sculpture.
Broken chocolate hearts (served alongside a knife).
Seafood skewers that are called “backstabbers.”

The event may bill itself as being slightly cynical about love, but staff members are optimistic about the romantic opportunities given the 50/50 male female ratio from last year, or simply, the lack of other options.
“If people hook up here, it’s because there is no where else for them to go,” said John Walsh, the executive chef.

So to encourage things along, the menu incorporates some aphrodisiac themes: deviled eggs (fertility symbol); oysters and littleneck clams (those old wives’ tales may actually be true); pomegranates (culinary symbol of Aphrodite, think of all those seeds), and chocolate (which researchers believe releases pleasure-enhancing serotonin).

If it’s a lucky night, some might end the waning hours of their Singles Awareness Day on more of a Valentine’s Day note.

This is not much of a money-making event for the hotel, given that tickets for the dinner and an hour of open bar are $45 or two for $75, if you register online. (Your City Room reporter was briefly puzzled as to why two people would go together to an Anti-Valentine’s Day event before realizing that two people doesn’t necessarily mean a couple.)

Interest didn’t really start picking up until the last few days. “Yesterday we have very few reservations in the morning, and in the evening the phone was going nuts,” Mr. Walsh said. “Unlike Thanksgiving, where people are booking in advance, this is a last-minute kind of thing.”

He added, “It’s almost like you are at the end of the line at the supermarket, and you are picking up the M&Ms and the Snickers on the way out.”

Monif C. - Swimwear 2010

Monif C. has released her new Swimwear line for 2010 online. I took a look at all the pieces and I am not sure if I like it or not. Practical? Nope. Interesting? Yes. Would I wear it? Absolutely not! So maybe I guess I don't like it? Hmmm. Maybe it will grow on me?

I'm sure if I was a celebrity I would definitely rock this collection. I guess I am just not fortunate enough to lounge by the pool all day in Miami or somewhere exotic and tropical with these bathing suits on for the paparazzi to snap photos of me.

This collection has definitely been inspired by Beyonce. Or shall I say, Sasha Fierce? It screams DIVA! Maybe I am just being a hater. After all, the pieces aren't hideous. They just aren't necessarily "my taste".

On a side note Fluvia looks amazing as always. She's always flawless!!!

Tyra launches "Fiercely Real Teen Model Search"

America's next top model is getting real....

Tyra Banks has announced her latest modeling competition and it's all about plus-sized teens, reports Us magazine. She calls the new competition the first ever "fiercely real" teen model search.

The supermodel-turned-TV-guru talked about the competition during her daytime talk show, "The Tyra Show," on Monday. Any girls between the ages of 13 and 19 are invited to enter, as long as they have a dress size between 12 and 20 and are 5'9" to 6'1" in height.

Unlike "America's Next Top Model," this search won't have the girls going through weeks of grueling photo shoots wearing sky-high stilettos.

The finalists for the competition will be announced during "The Tyra Show" on March 2nd and the winner of the first "Fiercely Real Teen Model Search" will be revealed the following day. Like the competition reality series, though, the winner still gets a one-year modeling contract and a spread in a major fashion magazine.

"I've always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty," says Banks via a statement to Us magazine. The top model went on to say that she has always tried to "challenge industry and universal standards" by "celebrating non-traditional beauty" and stressing the importance of inner beauty.

Banks also said she was disappointed that the term "plus-sized" had such a negative connotation, and that really, it just referred to the average American woman.

"That woman is healthy, fit and beautiful," says Banks, according to Us magazine. "Adolescence is such an impressionable time in a young woman's life, and I hope this contest helps teen girls discover their own beauty from the inside out."

I don't know if i've been living under a rock but I just discovered this site a few months back. It's a brand called 'YOURS CLOTHING'. They have tons of options for the Plus Size DIVA in everyone. What I like about them is that they have a lot of options that are basic and a lot of options that are trendy too. They have the best of both worlds.

I am in love. I haven't ordered anything from them yet but I can't wait to get my taxes back so I can go crazy and order some of the pieces I am showing above.

I would also like to add to this entry that I have come to the conclusion that American plus size is not NEARLY as great as overseas. The UK and even Australia have great places with Plus Size options.

The perfect Valentines (NIGHT) Outfit

Ironically enough, I myself currently have no significant other to share Valentines Day with but it doesn't discourage me from looking around and sharing my finds with you guys. You never know right? Besides, even if I do have someone to share it with I don't go all goo-goo ga-ga over this "commercialized" holiday anyway. I'd rather just stay in with them and enjoy the night. This Valentines will probably consist of dinner, wine and a movie with a couple of my girlfriends. If that fails there's always Georgie (my Chihuahua) whom I could just cuddle on the couch with. Pathetic? Maybe, but see if I care. Haha.

I was skimming through one of my friends Facebook pages and came across a link that was very interesting to me. I had to share with all you guys. So sad and so true.

I myself have an AWESOME Primary Care doctor and he truly never gets at me for "losing weight" being the butt of all my health issues. For this I am truly grateful but I have worked for Cardiologists and other doctors through out the years and sometimes they would bring "bigger" patients to tears from telling them that they are straight up "fat". It's pretty pathetic. We can only hope this gets better but really voicing our opinions on how we are feeling and the main reason we are seeing them. Not for "weight loss advice" (unless we ask) but for whatever the issue we are having is. This is pathetic in my eyes. You are supposed to trust our doctors. This is OUR health after all!!!
